Adventure Activities Restarting

Boulder Adventures are restarting some of our adventures from Monday 3rd August. We will be offering pre booked private sessions so it will just be your booking with our instructor. We are not able to offer any transport to venues but will arrange to meet where your activity will take place.

We will be able to offer: coasteering, gorge scrambling, canoeing and kayaking. More adventures may be added once we have seen how busy venues are and that we can sensibly find enough space to look after customers properly without adding to crowded venues.

Please remember if you are choosing to go on an adventure with us many other local services may not be available. We would strongly recommend you plan your day to be self-sufficient for food and drink.

If you require more information the best way to contact us is by email as our office is on very limited hours and we are aware we will be missing a lot of phone calls due to being out on activities. Equally we will need to send out a bit more pre information than normal to ensure we are working responsibly with the risk of Covid-19.

Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Last review 25 September 2020.

Following recent changes to Welsh Legislation (please note this differs from other areas of the UK) we are still operating at limited amount of our usual services.

Sorry, it is not business as normal and many previous options are still going to be unavailable.

Self-Catered accommodation is currently available at the Bryn Du Mountain Centre but please note limited numbers and household rules.

Kayak Hire from the Padarn water Sports Centre is up and running but needs pre booking as we try to only have one group at a time at the centre.

Adventure Activities are available to private groups please see the individual pages for specific information.

Pre booking and payment is strongly preferred for all services to enable social distancing and reduce physical interactions. We will also be asking in advance for contact details of all of those visiting us to aid any Track and Trace should we become aware of any customer or staff becoming unwell.

Email is going to be the most reliable way to contact us due to reduced staffing numbers an limited office access.

As Coronavirus develops we will continue to take advice from official sites as they are updated. We will in turn update any changes for customers in delivering our services on this page.

As practical steps in reducing the spread of Coronavirus we would expect customers to read and heed official government advice and steps to take if you suspect illness.

The No Van Plan!

Ditching in-course transport, let’s just walk places.

We are pretty lucky with our location here in Llanberis; we think it puts us in a position to be less reliant on vehicles to deliver our courses. Probably the right thing to do if we would like to think of ourselves as ambassadors for the outdoor environment.

We can walk to the lake to swim and canoe, we can walk to the crag to climb, we can walk to the quarries to abseil and the path up Snowdon starts in our village.

We want to prove this is a good idea thus a positive way to go about outdoor education and want to offer some special prices to encourage schools and youth groups to try it out.

We realise it still isn’t perfect but small steps literally in the right direction have to help.

We have two weeks this summer when you can stay at the Bryn Du Mountain Centre, Llanberis to try this out.

Monday 29th June – Thursday 2nd July 2020, Fully Catered at £180pp

And

Monday 3rd August – Thursday 6th August 2020, Self-Catered at £150pp.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrive for 1pm followed by afternoon lake swim

Day 2 – Canoeing and Abseiling Day

Alpkit Foundation Week

If you know of a school group who struggle to fund an outdoor education trip this might be of interest. Alpkit Foundation Week.

If you need any more information you can talk with us at Boulder Adventures but applications need to be via the Alpkit Foundation. Boulder Adventures do not choose who visits.

School & College Bookings 2019/20

Now is the time to get school and college trips confirmed (if you haven’t already) for 2019/20 academic year at Boulder Adventures. If you are returning this will be an easy process, we no doubt have your dates pencilled in and understand your programme needs. If a new customer, please get in touch. We will have a number of questions for you as we do not do “off the peg” this ensures we deliver what you want.

Things we will need to know:

  • How many of you?
  • How long you want to stay with us, two nights is enough for some others stay for a whole week?
  • Catered or self-catered, some groups like the simple option of Boulder Adventures organising the food others like the group to take on the personal responsibility?
  • How are you traveling to us? Do you need picking up from the train station? Will a coach be dropping you off? Will you have your own minibus that can be used to get to the activities?
  • Do you want Boulder Adventures to fill the whole trip or do you want some days to run your own visits?
  • Why are you visiting us? We are sure it is to have fun but there are of course many other benefits to consider. To develop new skills such as learning to read a map, to grow resilience, to build a team, promote leadership or grow confidence in problem solving ability.

We look forward to hearing from you and hopefully welcoming your group to our centre.

Competition Winners

Last week we had a great bunch of students in from Tudor Grange Academy. They were a really worthwhile group who put in loads of effort to make the most of the opportunity having won the Alpkit Foundation competition for a free residential with us.

The students went rock climbing, canoeing, gorge scrambling and climbed Snowdon with us.

Snowy Days.

The last two weeks of January have seen Boulder Adventures delivering six Prince’s Trust Team programs. Intended to challenge the teams and the weather has certainly added to that challenge. With the temperatures dropping and the snow coming down the teams have had some spectacular scenes for the adventures and worked hard to prove what they can achieve together

Now a Licensed Transport Operator for 2019.

At Boulder Adventures we have a number of transport solutions for our customers. We like to walk if possible, certainly the greener option. You can walk to our water sports centre or up Snowdon from the Bryn Du Mountain Centre. Other times we need to use a minibus or van. Many customers drive to us so have use of their own transport for the trip in which case we can allocate an instructor or kit van to your course. Many school groups will turn up by coach, if this is the case we can then provide minibus transport to get to the activities that require it. We are a licensed transport operator so you can trust our staff are fully qualified and experienced for driving as well as instructing. Having our own vehicles on site means we can also offer pick-ups from Bangor Train Station for those that require. Being a licensed transport operator means we can be pre booked for journeys without being on one of our courses. So if you are staying in Llanberis and need a drop off to start a mountain walk please get in contact.
